Easter Trip

Made a quick Easter trip down to Las Vegas to visit my Uncle Jon and Aunt Miyuki.

Woke up early Saturday to fly through Utah and get there about 10 am. We stopped by a car show and then drove down to Death Valley.

Sunday, we enjoyed a buffet at one of the casinos on the strip before heading to the Grand Canyon.

Monday, Jon and I hiked about 4 hours near their house at Turtle Peak.

Tuesday – we stopped by Lake Mead, but didn’t end up going to see it since traffic was pretty packed and I had a flight to catch.

Centerville with Dad and Grandma

I thought it would be fun to take my Grandma on a little road trip and I really enjoyed the pizza from George & Nick’s the other night, so I had my Dad meet up at my Grandma’s house this afternoon and then we all rode about 2 hours to Centerville, Iowa.

My Grandma is so funny, here were my favorite things she said:

“I hate the new headlights on cars these days, I really think the State Troopers should pull them over and just shoot out their lights and then give them a ticket!”

“When I am driving your Grandpa will say ‘how fast are you going?!’ When he’s driving I will say how slow are you going?!”

“I wish they’d just get rid of the internet. Did I say that right? Do they call it that still?”

“When you get to be my age, you don’t like to drive at night (starts laughing) and the rest of the people probably appreciate that!”

“Ryan, if you get pulled over for speeding just tell the State Trooper that you are taking your poor Grandma to the hospital and then I will act hurt” (she pretends to pass out for added fun)

I am so lucky to have her around!

Road Trip to Centerville

I had some vacation to use up from last year (which I’m always surprised when I do) so I took today off. I didn’t really have anything planned, so the morning I went to PerkUp cafe with my Grandma Williams.

She is a hoot. I always enjoy her stories, which I will leave off of the internet.

In the evening, I went with Andrew on a little road trip to Centerville, Iowa’s famous pizza place, George & Nicks. We ended up getting the Mama Mia, which was green olives, sausage and pepperoni (I think).

The pizza was 4/5 – I thought everything about it was delicious, the only thing a little off was the crust.

I forgot to take any pics of the food, but I got a shot of the courthouse on the square.

New Years in Detroit

I went to Detroit with Jill to spend New Years with The Sideris fam.

A quick recap:

We went to The Aspen Lounge (this is what we called the outside tent we went to, because it looked and felt like a comfy ski lounge). IMG_20171230_155914.jpg

For actual New Years we went to Wright & Company for dinner and then to The Skip for some drinks and then to The Whiskey Parlor to finish off the night. IMG_20171231_222854.jpg

Eva and Bro Bro were killing it with the cuteness. 00000PORTRAIT_00000_BURST20171229144401745.jpg00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20171231093416117_COVER.jpg

I got a couple (New Order Coffee, Great Lakes Coffee x2 and The Bottom Line Coffee) coffee stops in with Nick.

It was a quick trip, but in a good way, it didn’t seem too fast. I was also excited that on the way there and on the way back it was worth having our TSA PreCheck. I think I overheard at the Detroit airport the normal line was a 45 minute one, but the TSA PreCheck we were through in under 5 minutes. For a while, it seemed that both lanes were the same speed, so it was nice to finally feel like it was worth getting it.

Also, for those in the know. Do you call it New Years 2018 since we were headed into 2018 or New Years 2017, because it’s technically 2017? I would say 2018. Someone help me out here.

Detroit for Eva’s 1st Birthday

Last week was my 5th time in Detroit… I think?

I lost count after the 3rd time, because it’s literally my favorite thing in the world to be in Detroit with my best friend and his family.

There is only one trip I look forward to more than #brocation and that is my trip to see my very favorite folks, The Sideris’

Nick was one of my first bros I became friends with when I got out of the Navy back in the day and somehow we managed to live in a studio apartment. Coming off of a ship, it was literally so spacious to me at the time, but looking back I don’t know how he did it!

I was there almost the entire week, so I got a lot of time in with my peeps! I just literally love hanging out with this family.

My favorite little greek baby, Eva, turned one!!! They had a great birthday party for her at the pool. IMG_20160423_080429.jpg

Road trip to Detroit

I had a great time in Detroit seeing my friend Nick. The trip down there was a ten hour car ride, which I’m not really a fan of. Thankfully, it didn’t seem to last that long. The Sideris just bought a new (to them) house in the neighborhood that Henry Ford lived in. It is awesome on the inside, everything you’d want in an old house I suppose. We went to a few different places, but my favorite was just getting coffee and talking with Andrew and Nick.
